Required Spring Semester Planning Workshops
With registration approaching in November, it is finally time to begin planning for spring semester! All freshmen are required to complete one Spring Semester Planning Workshop in order to register for the spring semester. Workshops will be offered on-campus only and will be hosted by Gies Academic Advisors and Peer Advisors October 17 - 21, 2022. Workshops are 45-minute, interactive group advising sessions. We want every student to have the knowledge, resources, and tools to create well-informed and individualized academic plans, and the workshops do just that! If you do not attend, a hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to register until you meet with an Advisor to review the information.
During the workshop students will ...
- Review Degree Audit Report (DARS/u.Achieve) to track graduation progress
- Identify and plan Business Core courses
- Navigate online registration tools such as Plan Ahead and Course Explorer
- Locate time tickets and academic standing
- Create an individualized course plan for the spring 2022 semester
Workshop Registration
- Workshops are posted in Gies Groups as an event from Undergraduate Academic Advising. You must be logged into Gies Groups to view and register for an event. (They are also linked at the end of this email.)
- Review all workshop times and formats, and then choose ONE workshop to register for. DO NOT register for multiple workshop events. Take your time and pick one that best fits your schedule. All workshop details are in the event information.
- If choosing an on-campus workshop - the capacity is about 18 so reserve your spot early. All on-campus workshops will be held in the Undergraduate Success Lab (1041 BIF).
- *BLLC residents - choose the "BLLC resident only" workshop.
- James Scholars and Gies Scholars will have spicific workshops. Please see the email being sent by your programs.
Day-of Workshop Reminders
- Upon arrival, you will be given a fillable planning form to use as a guide to your Degree Audit Report (DARS) and degree progress. Save this form and bring it to your next professional or peer advising session!
- Bring an electronic device that is best for making course plans. Cellphones are not optimal.
Required Advising
Students who do not attend a Spring Semester Planning Workshop will have a hold placed on their student account preventing them from spring 2023 registration. Our goal is provide each student with the knowledge and tools to confidently make academic plans, which is why we require these workshops in the first year. After attending a workshop students are welcome to plan on their own or schedule a meeting with either a Peer Advisor or Academic Advisor to finalize their spring plans if needed.
All our best,
Gies Undergraduate Academic Advising Team
